1988 was an important year for hard rock and heavy metal music. While pop/glam metal was still ruling the charts, such up and comers as Guns N' Roses and Metallica were introducing a more stripped down and in-your-face approach to the rock world, and racking up huge sales. Undeterred by trends, Ratt stuck to its guns on its fourth release, REACH FOR THE SKY, which showed that the group was perfectly content to stick with the spandex and pop metal that made its first three releases such a success. On the whole, this refusal to branch out rendered the album slightly less surprising than OUT OF THE CELLAR. Nevertheless, REACH FOR THE SKY did spawn even more MTV favorites by way of "Way Cool Jr." (which supposedly criticized Guns N' Roses) and "I Want A Woman."
