Black Sabbath is responsible for penning some of the greatest hard rock/heavy metal tunes of all time, and nearly all are featured on the double-album WE SOLD OUR SOUL FOR ROCK & ROLL. Released in 1976, the collection includes material from the band's 1970 self-titled debut through 1975's SABOTAGE. While many key album tracks are absent due to time restrictions (such as "Into the Void," "After Forever," "Sabra Cadabra," "Symptom of the Universe," "Supernaut," etc.), the collection is about as exhaustive as a 77-minute collection can possibly be.
Sabbath's early favorites, "Black Sabbath," "Wizard," and "N.I.B.," contain a slightly more bluesy edge than the band's later material, while "Paranoid," "War Pigs," "Children of the Grave," "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath," "Sweet Leaf," and "Iron Man" remain amongst heavy metal's finest moments. Several oft-overlooked tracks are featured, such as "Fairies Wear Boots," "Am I Going Insane (Radio)," "Tomorrow's Dream," "Changes," and "Snowblind," making WE SOLD OUR SOUL FOR ROCK & ROLL an excellently balanced collection. If you're a newcomer to the wonders of Black Sabbath, WE SOLD OUR SOUL FOR ROCK & ROLL simply can't be beat.
