As is the case with many other Ringo solo outings, OLD WAVE is a star-studded affair, with Ringo benefiting from the performing and songwriting talents of his famous friends. British rock royalty like John Entwistle and Gary Brooker lend their talents, but the major collaborator here is Joe Walsh, who is the primary guitarist and co-writer on several tunes. Despite all the famous guests, OLD WAVE doesn't get bogged down in layers of electronic quicksand; it's a fun, rollicking album, spiced by cover versions of the Tex-Mex classic "She's About A Mover" and Leiber & Stoller's R&B gem "I Keep Forgettin'." Maximizing Ringo's inherent novelty value are "Everybody's In a Hurry But Me" and "Going Down," near-instrumentals that rely on a good-timey ethic and Ringo's own propulsive backbeat for their quirky charm.
